Why Portable Displays Have Become the Necessity of Every Trade Show

Trade shows have become an integral part of marketing strategy for almost every organization and this has led to the unexpected growth of this industry. Different trade show pundits from around the planet have started to come up with ideas that will not only popularize the target organization in a particular trade show but will also help reduce marketing costs.

One such measure taken by the trade show experts is the usage of portable displays. Trade show booths when include portable displays consume less space and are easy to carry. This way the trade show exhibit will easily be setup in least required space and the organization won’t have to spend too many bucks in transporting those portable trade show displays from one place to the other.

Another advantage associated with portable displays is that they are easy to setup and do not require any expert knowledge. Hence, after learning the basics anybody can setup portable displays in his/her trade show booth thus the organization won’t have to pay extra bucks to the expert for this easy job. Lastly, as anyone can guess by now, portable displays do save a lot of time and give you least possible headache when compared to various other counterparts.

Missing my chance to meet Captain America

I am addicted to trade shows and when I can’t get to a certain show I will look online for news and information about trade shows not taking place in Las Vegas

The one show that has eluded me year after year is Comic Con — the annual convention of popular arts with special guests, themes and anniversaries, and programming. It is the ultimate gathering of science fiction characters, comic book heroes and the celebrities who portray them in films.

Most of the characters are the attendees who travel to the San Diego Convention Center to participate in the convention. The press enjoys covering this event because there is never a shortage of costume-clad sci-fi fans. This year the show is going ape with the release of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” on Aug. 5.

More than 125,000 fans have descended upon the Convention Center this week, dressing up like their heroes, which this year will include vampires, werewolves, zombie-killers and demon-hunters featured in recent and forthcoming comic books, TV shows, movies and video games.

Hugh Jackman was photographed at Comic Con passing out movie poster to hundreds of fans. Most fans know him as Wolverine of X-Men films of he has been promoting “Real Steel” his latest action film about boxing robots.

According to press releases, Jackman is Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring.

This film will most likely appeal to males. From the trailers it looks like the Rock ’Em Sock ’E Robots of my youth have taken over the silver screen.

I wouldn’t mind donning my Star Trek uniform and spend a day walking among Captain America, the Hulk or Spiderman.

Las Vegas does host the Star Trek Convention but it is not the same since Star Trek: The Experience shut down at the Hilton.

Las Vegas meanwhile has a beauty show in Cosmoprof North America, a show shoe from WSA and the ASD merchandise show taking place this month.

I may not get to rub elbows with Captain America but next month I will get chance to listen to President Bill Clinton who is the keynote speaker for the Summer 2011 Las Vegas Market at the World Market Center on Aug. 1.

Live long and prosper.

Wowza Media Systems Debuts New Trade Show Booth at NAB 2013

Wowza Media Systems approached Condit in November of 2012 to help design their first 20×20 custom island exhibit for the NAB Show 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The NAB Show features over 90,000 media and entertainment professionals from over 150 countries. With 85 years of industry leadership, the NAB Show is the world’s largest media and entertainment event covering the development, management, and delivery of content across all mediums.

Wowza experienced tremendous growth in the last year, having just expanded their marketing team from 1 to 5 people. At past NAB shows, the company’s previous 10×20 modular exhibit was over-crowded with current customers and attendees with technical questions.

The primary goal for NAB 2013 was to attract more quality prospects to the booth and generate interest in the Wowza brand. As the name implies, Wowza is a fun, techy company. The new trade show presence needed to create and convey a unique brand persona.

To achieve this goal, Condit’s design team utilized custom lighting features (including lightboxes and suspended fixtures) to emphasize and highlight the key messages and feel of Wowza’s brand. The carpet tile inlay created additional visual interest and tied the booth together.

Condit’s solution successfully solved the trade show challenges that Wowza was facing. Lynn Green, Marketing Manager at Wowza said, “The booth was crowded, and very visible!”

By utilizing an open floor plan and custom exhibit design, Condit and Wowza were able to create a space that was not only more effective than the previous booth in driving interest and traffic, but left a lasting impression on attendees who stopped by.

Choosing Trade Show Giveaways that Deliver Results

tradeshow giveaway itemsA convention exhibition hall may seem like a goldmine for finding potential buyers. Yet, with scores of exhibitors competing for the attention of conference attendees, it is essential to have a carefully planned and executed strategy to attract visitors to your display area, allowing your booth team to prequalify prospects and generate sales.

There are a variety of proven techniques that entice trade show visitors to stop at your booth. These include everything from specialized booth attractions and entertainment to tempting food and games. Yet, among these attention-grabbing techniques, trade show giveaways have long been at the core of traffic building strategies for exhibitors.

Promotional items not only help draw visitors and augment other traffic building efforts, they facilitate recall of your company after the show, and provide easy-to-access contact information. Yet, many promotional gifts may not be worth your investment. So how do you select cost-effective tradeshow giveaways that support your lead and revenue objectives?

As with every element of marketing and sales, you need to clearly define what you want to accomplish with your giveaways. For example, in addition to driving booth visitors, you may want to use promotional items to enhance brand awareness, introduce a new product, provide useful information, or share contact information in a unique, memorable way.

Then, based on your objectives, you need to select a giveaway that differentiates you from the competition, complements your product offering, and accurately reflects your company positioning in the market. Following are questions to consider as you evaluate your options:

  • Do the giveaways support your product image and category?

  • Do the promotional items you want to buy fit within your budget?

  • Is there ample space to print your information on the items?

  • Will you be able to receive your giveaways in time for the event?

  • Do your items have high perceived value among your target audience?

  • Are your giveaways unique and different from others you’ve seen?

If there are extras after the show, are there other ways you can use the promotional gifts from a sales and marketing perspective?
Are the items something YOU would like to have and keep?

Whether you select quality pens, bouncing balls, mini books, ice scrapers or miniature globes, it is essential that your giveaways have a connection to your product.

At the event, hand out your giveaways selectively. Don’t have them stacked on a table and available for anyone to take. Use the gifts to prequalify potential buyers. Ask booth visitors to give you their business cards or other information to receive your gift. This will give the promotional item more meaning and help you with your post-show follow-up initiatives.

Pinterest for Trade Shows

Pinterest is one of the most popular social networks in the U.S. If you aren’t overly familiar with Pinterest, it’s a social network for sharing photography and videos. According to Pinterest, the site is designed to let you “organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.” Users post (pin) images and videos to interactive virtual bulletin boards (pinboards) that focus on shared passions, inspirational themes, items they wish to purchase and more. Believe it or not, this social bookmarking site is responsible for driving more traffic to company websites than YouTube, LinkedIn and Google+ combined.

Tons of brands and companies are taking advantage of Pinterest for their promotional and branding efforts, so why not use it to bolster excitement for your upcoming trade show? If employed correctly, Pinterest can be a valuable component of your trade show marketing plan. Here are a few ideas for promoting your next trade show on Pinterest.

Pinterest 101 – Getting Started

  • Use your company name as your first and last name on your profile. Be sure to include popular keywords in your company description as well as a link to your website.
  • Begin following Pinterest users. Many will return the favor and follow your account. Interact with pinners through comments, likes and repins (adding their photo to your board).
  • Add a link back to your website, trade show website or company blog for each image posted. These will drive traffic back to your website or the trade show website.
  • Connect Facebook and Twitter accounts to Pinterest.
  • Use keywords in image descriptions so they are easily searchable.

Pinterest for Pre-Trade Show Marketing

  • Announce your Pinterest presence on your company blog, social media networks and newsletters.
  • Start creating pinboards. Create a board that tells the story of your company and values. Design lifestyle pinboards with photos that symbolize your brand’s message or inspirational collages. Consider product pinboards or pinboards filled with photos of corporate events, fun employee pictures, etc. Use images to tell client stories. Develop a pinboard including photos of your company preparing for the trade show. Don’t be afraid to weave humor into your boards. The possibilities are endless.
  • Crowdsource. Ask users to pin images to your boards or create their own pinboards. These boards can showcase an upcoming trade show, unique uses for your products, reinforce your brand message, follow a chosen theme, etc. Get creative.
  • Construct boards with images from past trade shows and encourage previous participants to add their images to your boards.
  • Upload trade show related YouTube videos to your Pinterest boards.
  • Once trade show plans are in place, invite pinners to post photos of their favorite places and things to do in the city where the trade show is happening.

Using Pinterest During the Trade Show

  • Let users live vicariously through your company. Post daily photos of the trade show venue, staff photos, booths, presentations, photos of employees enjoying local spots in the city where the trade show is held, etc.
  • Make your pinboards a collaborative effort. Tell visitors and trade show attendees about your Pinterest site. Invite them to pin their event photos and videos to your boards.
  • Share Pinterest photos on Twitter using the specific trade show hashtag.

Pinterest for Post-Trade Show Marketing

  • Create pinboards for your latest trade show and add your favorite images.
  • Encourage trade show attendees to share their photos. Repin & comment on event photos posted by others.
  • Include Pinterest photos in your company blog, social network posts and email blasts.
  • Remain active in the Pinterest community by following other users, repinning appropriate images to your boards, commenting on images, etc. Make it a point to post regularly.

The Wireless Foundation’s VITA Awards for Using Wireless to Improve Lives

Last night, The Wireless Foundation held its VITA Achievement dinner, where it recognized individuals and organizations that used wireless technology to make a positive and significant societal impact.

The evening’s honorees were (and read the Wireless Samaritans award winners’ inspiring stories):

Congressional Honoree: U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller

Among the Senator’s many accomplishments, his leadership on spectrum  and next generation 911 services are why The Wireless Foundation recognized him last night. As the author of the  “Spectrum Act,” which became law in 2011, first responders have a high speed nationwide wireless network to communicate during times of crisis.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) accepts VITA Awards from The Wireless Foundation.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) accepts VITA Awards from The Wireless Foundation.

Connected Health Honoree: American Red Cross - First Aid and Other Mobile Apps

The American Red Cross developed mobile apps that provide lifesaving information, such as first-aid instructions and how to handle weather-related crises before, during and after.  ARC continues to make a significant impact in helping people in emergency situations with the easy-to-follow information on their mobile devices.

Green Wireless Honoree: Ericsson - Enabling Low Carbon Economies, Sustainable Cities and Intelligent Transport

Ericsson is working to positively impact the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their own operations and in other industries. By using more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible equipment and components in the wireless industry's own operations, they are finding energy savings of up to 70 percent and substantial reductions in their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Ericsson is helping our environment for future generations.

Children’s Wireless & Online Safety Honoree: National Parent Teachers Association - TipTxt

43 percent of 13-17 year old kids reported they were victims of “cyberbullying.” NPTA developed TipTxt so students could confidentially notify school officials about bullying and school safety.

Education Honoree: Onslow County Public Schools, N.C. - One-to-One Math Initiative

To increase student engagement and improve math scores, this North Carolina school district is using wireless technology so its students are ready for the 21st century workforce. Implemented in 2011, the  One-to-One Math Initiative offers teachers a chance to learn from experts so they can better integrate math and science for their students.

Promoting Trade Shows with Social Media

Social media has the potential to turn your upcoming trade show into a “must-see” event and is an invaluable tool for pre-trade show promotion. It’s also an excellent way to update non-attendees about the latest products, events, news, etc. Social media keeps customers and prospects in the loop so they know what your company has to offer.

If you aren’t incorporating social media into your existing pre-show marketing strategy, you are missing a significant opportunity to reach a large audience.  Don’t fret if you haven’t established a corporate presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+ or YouTube.  Start now. Build pages on these sites and work to obtain followers and connections. The easiest way to grow your social network is through consistent engagement. Reach out to others and they will return the favor.

Once established, here are a few pre-show strategies to promote your next trade show event with social media:

Combine social media with traditional pre-trade show promotions
Encourage people to follow your company on Facebook, Twitter, etc. on your blog, direct mailers, emails, press releases, etc. Entice them with special promotions, contests and event news. Share blog posts and create event postings on social media.

Promote trade show events on social media networks
There’s thousands of ways to successfully promote your trade show event on social media. To begin, discuss the trade show on your company blog, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Share some insight and quips about the trade show agenda, speakers, topics and industry trends. Engage your audience by asking questions about what they would like to see and encouraging discussions on the latest industry trends. Tweet regularly about the upcoming show and find out if there is a specific trade show (#) hashtag. Locate potential attendees based on their posts and bios and send them personal invites. Ask your staff and sales team to promote the event on their own networks. Word will get around.

Be Seen
Don’t be afraid to use videos. Why not create and upload a few noteworthy videos for your company’s YouTube channel? Use the trade show name in the video title so it’s easily searchable. Then, share your videos on your website, blog and across all other social media channels.

Everyone loves a contest
Tempt visitors to your trade show booth with giveaways. Urge attendees to follow you on Twitter or “like” you on Facebook for a chance to win a prize at the trade show. It’s wise to give away a few smaller prizes, and then raffle off a more extravagant item (perhaps a new laptop, iPad or tickets to a sporting event). Require participants to visit your trade show display to claim their prize.

Social media is a phenomenal and cost-efficient way to leverage your online presence. Companies who engage others and stay active on social media sites can attract a much larger audience and increase brand awareness without spending a ton of cash. It’s a win-win situation.

Contact The Rogers Company about the latest social media trends to apply in your next trade show marketing plan.

Justice finally served

I am addicted to tradeshows but I always keep my eye on the news and when the news hits the fan it is hard to concentrate on other things in life.

News of the death of Osama bin Laden was a huge victory for the United States and should change the course of war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

it is a mess over there and I am glad to be an American living in Las Vegas.

Yet, it is hard to hear of news from this past weekend and not think back to that awful morning in New York. I was working for a tradeshow publication here in Las Vegas. I was still new to the industry and trying to get my head around pop-up modules and double-deck booths.

The events that transpired that early Tuesday morning will always be fresh in my memory. Everyone remembers where he or she was when the World Trade Center towers came crashing down.

Now everyone will remember where they were when they heard the news about the Navy Seals who stormed a compound in Abbottabad and killed the most hated man in America.

It was justice served.

Perhaps this is not the place to discuss the events that took place in another American city or in a small town in a country I will never visit, but it goes to show the reach that one man had and the effect his decision had on a city this evil man probably never visited.

When the planes hit the Towers in New York all planes were grounded and McCarran Airport and the Las Vegas Convention Center were placed on high alert.

Tradeshows, conventions and tourism came to a halt that day and Las Vegas’ economy was crippled.

Comdex was expected to give its usual boost to the Las Vegas economy but after the attacks there was talk of canceling Comdex all together.

Comdex was expected to draw upwards of 200,00 attendees to its November Show. Comdex picked up some attendees in the days leading up to the show but final numbers came in at 110,000 attendees. The tech boom head reached its peak and in June 2004, Comdex cancelled the 2004 exhibition in Las Vegas.

According to news accounts, McCarran was averaging more than 3 million passengers a month until the number dropped to 2.1 million in September 2001 and remained below 3 million until March 2002.

Gaming revenue for Clark County fell from $650 million in August 2001 to $595 million in September and stayed below year-ago levels until February 2002.Hotels were discounting rates like car dealers to maintain occupancy levels, which had fallen from 90 percent to about 70 percent.

One evil man can be blamed for the dismal economic figures for that year. Now he is gone and while New York continues to rebuild at Ground Zero, Las Vegas continues to rebuild its tradeshow and tourism economy.

It is hard to believe that one man could create such world-wide terror but now that he is gone, it is my hope that we can work to solve other issues that directly effect us as Americans living in Las Vegas or anytown, U.S.A.

As a I watch President Barack Obama lay a wreath at Ground Zero I look ahead with hope for a peaceful future and a prosperous trade show business. I do know there is much more work to do and peace will not come easy but catching Osama is something President Obama can mark off his bucket list.

See you on the floor!

Continuous Process Improvement in the Contact Center and Beyond

As companies continue to evolve their CRM strategies to attract and maintain customers, the contact center has emerged as an important strategic asset. The agents staffing these centers have a direct impact on customer acquisition and satisfaction. In order to continue providing excellent service, more companies are turning to advanced analytics to ensure that their contact centers are performing at a high level.

In addition, market leaders are using insights from customer interactions to uncover sales, marketing, and operational improvement opportunities that touch every branch of the business. Contact analytics is now being leveraged to provide more than just performance feedback to front line employees; the intelligence mined from customer interactions is driving continuous process improvement throughout the entire organization.

Today, CRM strategies have become much more integrated – companies want to organize, automate, and synchronize sales, marketing, customer service, and technical support. It’s a complicated dance that requires both accurate and timely data. Market leaders have realized that the intelligence mined from customer interactions can not only provide tremendous insight, it can be used to continuously improve processes throughout the entire business. Insights from analytics are now being used to better target audiences for marketing, improve operational efficiency, and increase sales. Customers benefit from more intelligent offers, quicker delivery, and better service. A CallMiner white paper Continuous Process Improvement in the Contact Center and Beyond, discusses these issues and features a case study on how Saveology was able to reduce costs and increase revenue.

Hardware versus IT Clouds

I am addicted to tradeshows, which is why the month of May is so much fun and yet so busy.

Both the National Hardware Show and Interop were in Las Vegas and I managed to spend a little time at both. It was interesting to see the differences between the two tradeshows.

Sure there are the obvious similarities of the aisles of graphics, booths and carpeting but it was the differences that stood out as I went from the Las Vegas Convention Center to see grills, drills and staple guns and over to Mandalay Bay Convention Center for fiber optics, clouds and data management.

Interop is great for computer networking, technology and security systems but I felt a bit lost understanding the future of IT. This was a show for Windows people and I have always been a Mac man.

I always enjoy the NHS for its tools, garden decorations and the latest in garage technology. It is like walking into a huge hardware store without price tags. I understand do-it-yourself projects and I like to know there is new heavy duty cleaning wipes available to help me clean up.

Jack Youngblood at the National Hardware ShowWhat I like about Interop is how well the press is treated. There are plenty of computer stations to file a story and lunch is catered.

At the LVCC I had to settle for slice of pizza at the food court but the NHS media relations staff does send out plenty of stories to keep me up-to-date with information.

While at the NHS I got to meet NFL Hall-of-Famer Jack Youngblood from the Los Angeles Rams and I took photos of television star and Sears spokesman Ty Pennington. Celebrities always bring attention to a booth.

Interop General Manager Lenny Heyman spent a few minutes with me to talk about his show. I also sat down with Michael Kushner, the vice president digital media strategy for UBM Studios, to discuss the future of virtual tradeshows. UBM is the company behind Virtual Comdex and is on the cutting edge of virtual events.

I also notice a difference in the noise level of both shows.

The Las Vegas Convention Center is a cavernous facility but I had no problem talking with exhibitors and hearing the various presentations being delivered.

The exhibitors at Interop, meanwhile, seem to be competing for attention. Every exhibitor must have had a stage with microphones, visual aids, speaker systems and models ready to sit you down for the next presentation. The noise level was a bit much and it was difficult to hear or understand a few of the presentations I sat down to listen to.

As for tchotchkes, I walked from Interop away with T-Shirts, USB drives and a small beanie dog. From NHS I received a cap, a tool apron, and toilet cleaning tabs. I also came home with a small MAG-Lite flashlight but I got that from ONPATH Technologies — an Interop exhibitor.

This week is aimed at tourism and hospitality with the Hospitality Design Expo Show at the Sands Expo meanwhile over at Aria Resort & Casino in City Center is The Global Travel & Tourism Summit.

See you on the floor!

Guide To Custom Trade Show Booths

Trade show displays possess the strength to make or break your organization. A dull portable display can kick back trade show attendees while an attractive and mesmerizing trade show exhibit display can exponentially increase the number of attendees visiting your booth area. This is a major reason why custom trade show booths have an edge over other displays

Using a custom trade show booth means one has the advantage to design the booth as per the likings of trade show attendees and company branding purposes. Expert designers must be contacted when it comes to designing a custom trade show booth. One should take immense care that the designing company being hired has enough experience in its niche else your next trade show might prove to be a disaster.

Not only the trade show attendees but also the other competing companies setting up their trade show displays in the upcoming trade show must be studied thoroughly. You might consider your custom trade show booth to be the best but there is somebody all set to outshine you. Henceforth, focusing an show attendees an competition can help set your customized display apart from the rest.

Four Types of Emplyees That Cost You Money

If you’re managing a large or distributed workforce, are you asking yourself “what are my people doing all day?” In many cases, the answer is that people aren’t doing what they should. Some workers are performing below, and sometimes substantially below, their potential. Perhaps they don’t know the best way to do the job. Maybe they’re just working to a target and then slacking off once they hit it. To get the most from your employees, you need visibility into what they are doing. But getting visibility is tough, especially when workers are remote, or managers have large teams.

Enkata’s solution provides visibility, and lets you see what kinds of workers you have on your team. Their white paper, 4 Types of Employees That are Costing You Money shows you how you can see what your workforce is doing and how to improve it.

Trade Show Trends For 2013: Engaging Tech Savvy Visitors

tradeshow upcoming trendsTrade shows remain a great way to show off your products and talk face-to-face to potential clients, but the trade shows of today are not your father’s tradeshow. In the “old days,” starting in the 60s, you might place a few products on a table, hand out some literature, hope to engage in conversation, and get a business card so you could follow-up.

The goal of getting leads might be the same today, but the process is conducted in a very different atmosphere, characterized by interactive displays that are bright and eye-catching. Current trade show trends for 2013 reflect today’s fast paced culture and how people process information using technology.

Wowing The Sound Byte Generation

We live in a world of sound bytes, where people are attracted to products through catchy slogans, compelling graphics, and quick videos. Modern tradeshows play on these trends by depending less on the custom-built displays of the past and more on minimal displays with high-tech lighting and easily changeable banners. Even major exhibitors, whose booth occupies an area equivalent to a city block, count on the “wow” factor to woo visitors.

Engaging Through Interactive Displays

As an exhibitor, you must be friendly and show a willingness to engage, but interactive technology is now what gets people into the booth and promotes conversation. Touchscreen displays allow visitors to the booth to get information about your product and try it out. Many times, visitors come to the booth as a result of social media invitations to view demonstrations, not just endless loops of the company video. Some companies even offer interactive presentations via smartphones, which allows the attendees to play with the application long after the exhibitor has packed up and gone home. Booths might offer exciting games and contests, money blowing machines, and appealing giveaways in return for customers stopping by and giving up their contact information.

Giving Visitors Their Space

Your display might be a conversation starters for some attendees, but just as in a retail store, others are “just looking” and don’t want a salesperson hovering around them. Some exhibitors have created small areas where people can view information uninterrupted and then seek out a booth representative if they had a question. These companies have found that this approach increased the level of engagement with people who were looking for information on their own timetable.

Going Green

Gone are the days when an exhibitor would measure the success of a tradeshow by the amount of literature they distributed, while the attendee measured the value of the tradeshow by the pound collected! Rather than distributing costly brochures, companies are adding QR codes to their displays that attendees can capture on their smartphone or tablet and be directed to a website with the information they want. The approach is greener, costs exhibitors less, and cuts down the amount of literature that overburdened visitors throw away at the trade show exit.

Social Media For Trade Shows

Social media, both modern and green, allows marketers to do pre-show, in-show and post-show trade show marketing with a smaller trail of paper and minimal environmental impact. Your company can set up a page via your social media site that is a living piece of show history, which offers information about the show and your products, offers promotions, and allows for interaction with customers.

Modern trade show displays are more visually appealing and engaging in a way that is comfortable to their tech savvy visitors.
