Ramsay Steak Opens Friday, May 11

LAS VEGAS (April 20, 2012) – Internationally-renowned Chef Gordon Ramsay announced that Gordon Ramsay Steak, his first restaurant in Las Vegas, will open Friday, May 11 at Paris Las Vegas.  Gordon Ramsay Steak will offer guests a fresh, high-energy modern steakhouse environment that playfully transports guests from Paris to London.

“The space is bold and innovative, and we've put together a strong team who together created a contemporary and fresh menu,” says Chef Ramsay. “I can't wait to open and start welcoming guests to my very first Vegas-based restaurant.”

David Hoenemeyer, president of Paris Las Vegas, looks forward to welcoming Gordon Ramsay to the resort: “I am incredibly pleased with the restaurant that Gordon Ramsay and his team have created at Gordon Ramsay Steak.  The space is one-of-a-kind in its design and energy; my mouth waters simply reading the menu.”

On the evening of May 11, Ramsay will participate in Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit’s Grand Tasting where Gordon Ramsay Steak will serve small bites to thousands of guests from its newly fabricated booth, stylistically representative of the restaurant.  Attendees of the event will be treated to a selection of some of Ramsay’s traditional favorites such as the roasted beef Wellington served with potato puree and butter-glazed root vegetables, pan-seared Haddock with Irish potato broth and sticky toffee pudding.  This will be Chef Ramsay’s first year participating in the culinary event at Caesars Palace Garden of the Gods pool oasis.

Gordon Ramsay Steak’s menu, carried out by new Executive Chef Kevin Hee, who has trained under the Gordon Ramsay Group, will showcase Ramsay’s interpretation of traditional American steakhouse dishes with a hint of modern flair intertwined with many contemporary classics.  The menu will change seasonally drawing on the best product available at the time giving visitors new tastes upon every return.  Diners can choose from starters either “From Sea” or “From Land” with dishes like butter-poached Maine lobster, fried oysters and smoked beef tartare with Guinness-infused mustard seeds.  Main courses offer a wide selection of grilled items such as a large range of Wagyu beef, various cuts of dry-aged steaks, veal, Kurobuta double pork chop and an assortment of seafood choices.

Speakers offer film industry insight

I am addicted to trade shows. This week my addiction took me to the National Association of Broadcasters annual digital media gathering of entertainment professionals.

It is not always a product or a particular show that draws my attendee attention. A celebrity, special guest or specific keynote speaker are also considerations when I attend a tradeshow.

NAB2011 did not disappoint with keynote speakers James Cameron and Kevin Smith making appearances at the Las Vegas Convention Center. I may not be a huge fan of Smith’s but I was really interested in what he had to say and I did enjoy Clerks. As for Cameron, well, this was my first chance to be in the same room as an Oscar-winning director.

Cameron spoke about his favorite film technology at the moment — 3-D.  Cameron has had an interest in 3D long before he created Avatar.  Earlier in the week he announced his new alliance to develop and enhance 3-D technology for broadcasters.

Working alongside cinematographer Vince Pace, with whom Cameron created the Fusion camera system that shot Avatar, the Oscar-winner now plans to “make 3-D ubiquitous over the next five to 10 years on all platforms.”

It was great to hear his thoughts on this technology and I have never been at a keynote where a Hollywood director needed to remind attendees “Glasses on. This is in 3-D,” as he introduced a highlight real of coming 3D films including Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Smith has a much different approach to films and drew a packed crowed to the South Hall on Wednesday morning for his keynote address.

Dropping F-bombs throughout his talk was not surprising but his dry humor and insights combined for a very entertaining keynote.

“I don’t like doing films as a job,” Smith said. “You don’t have to be good at something as long as you are passionate. I am proof of that.”

Smith showed a lengthy clip of his upcoming film Red State. It was loud with repeated gunfire and had no shortage of blood splatter. When the lights come back on he was laughing as he tells the audience that it is his wife who gets shot and dies in this clip and he likes watching it over and over.

Smith may have an odd sense of black humor but his humor has been his trademark. Smith has no desire to create a 3-D film and indicted that Red State would be his last film for a while as he delves into other digital media interest.

I am addicted to trade shows because I never know who I am going to meet, see or listen at the next show.

There was just too much to see and too many people to meet at NAB2011 and this is a must-attend for any aspiring filmmaker and broadcaster.

Also on Wednesday, the NAB Education Foundation in partnership with the Broadcast Education Association and Pinkslipmixers.com hosted its annual spring Career Day.

I was able to meet local Channel-8 KLAS-TV newscaster Dave Courvoisier who was a panelist for one of the Career Day sessions.

Career Day was an opportunity for media companies to network with experienced professionals, college students and entry-level job seekers interested in a career in the broadcast industry.

I had have my resume critiqued by PBS Director George Molnar and KLAS-TV News Director Ron Comings. Both directors offered great advice and insight for a better resume.

It was my first time at NAB and early figures show an attendance increase of 5 percent with an total registration at 92,708. I was glad to be one among the thousands.

Trade Show Tricks

key to successMost of the time, when you attend or participate in a large exhibition, the main booths….in other words, the more obvious booths are taken by big names….in your industry, there are bound to be a couple of them. Anyway, for small or medium-sized business owners, it’s tough trying to make your way to the front during such a trade show and it can be both a waste of money AND frustrating!

Preparing yourself for a successful trade show can be scary stuff for those who have never tried it before. How do we present ourselves in such a way that it projects the right image and attract the crowd with the space that we’re given. Given the fact that the most central spaces has been taken up by giant names, who are we and how are we going to tell our potential customers, affiliates and partners that we’re worth out salt?

Knowing what you’re in for is the first thing you need to do to eliminate the ‘scariness’ of the whole situation. Know the map, know the booth, know the size of the area, know the people who are organizing the trade show for you….everything you can get your hands on. Contacting the organizers of the trade show will help you too and you have every right to demand that they give you all the information that you need.

One of the things that most people fail to ask is the number of power outlets available at the booth area. You’re going to bringing a whole load of stuff to the trade show and the number of lights, shelves and electrical items you bring depends on the number of power outlets there are there. Ask the organizers or check it out with the layout.

Most trade show organizers will give you a table cloth to use….my advice would be to bring your own even if they’re supplying you with one. One, you don’t know who has been using the table cloth; two, it may not coincide with the color scheme (if any) that you’ve chosen. During a trade show, your image is of utmost importance!

Arrange your trade show display is properly by putting the larger items at the back and the smaller items in the front. And they should all be at eye level so that your potential buyers don’t have to climb a chair or crane their neck just to take a look. You’re losing customers that way.

Show off your stuff with a powerpoint presentation that continuously play-on during the trade show. Use your own laptop or rent it….if you’re using a laptop, set up a page of a powerpoint presentation that your potential customers can use to browse through product specs, company information or lead them to your corporate website. THIS is your chance to reel them in and if you miss the boat because of inefficiency, there’s no one else to blame.

So make full use of everything you have with you during the trade show and good luck!

Want to get the most out of your trade show? There are many ways to do this: a prize vault or cash cube money machine is great for attracting customers on the spot. They see your booth, and they want to come over because what you’re offering looks interesting. Clients will also be drawn by prize wheels with trade show giveaways, which have the added benefit of reminding everyone who visits about your booth the next day.

Eight Trends for Contact Centers in 2013

Interior Concepts has a dedicated team that works with individuals in the contact center industry on a daily basis. These close interactions allow us to keep up to speed regarding changing market conditions and trends. Click the links to see virtual tours of successful contact center installations for NOVO 1 and OLC Global.

A new Interior Concepts white paper, Eight Trends for Contact Centers in 2013, focuses on eight trends to keep in mind when you build or retrofit your contact center this year. Incorporate these tips into your contact center to create a space that allows you to be more productive, retain employees, and create a more efficient use of space.

Key Take-Aways:

  • Incorporate collaborative spaces & Internet kiosks. Internet kiosks give employees designated space to browse the Internet or check email. Having spaces for employees to meet, converse, and unwind can improve productivity when they head back to their work areas.
  • Use the benefits of natural light to your advantage. Natural light has shown to increase productivity from 5% to 15% in studies about natural light and productivity.
  • Raise supervisor stations to increase visibility. The most common design for supervisors’ workstations is a standing height workstation at the end of a pod of agents because this design gives the best line of sight.
  • Design for workstation efficiency. Agent stations that are 42” wide have become one of the most popular standards. This allows enough space for technology and creates the enough privacy for an individual to work effectively.
