Pop Up Displays: Convenience and Effectiveness

The convenience and effectiveness you will find in pop up displays will have you sold at your very first trade show. You will wonder why you have never utilized them in the past. Pop up displays give you the ultimate edge that traditional three fold poster board displays could never give. They give you that extra impact that screams out… “I take pride in my products and I am willing to take the extra step to show you.” No matter how large of an impact you want to make or space in which you have to do it in, there is a portable display suited for you. Take the extra step and garner more attention by displaying your products in trade show graphics that will draw the attention of potential customers; in return hopefully giving you that window of opportunity that would otherwise be lost. The difference between a customers pause at your trade show booth and a blatant walk by can be the difference between a successful show or not.

Hall of Champions Exhibit at Cherry Hills Country Club

In April of 2012, Condit completed a new exhibit at Cherry Hills Country club in Denver, Colorado. The new clubhouse museum exhibit for members and guests features a Hall of Champions. There are “glass cases hanging on the wall showcase artifacts from each of the club’s major events, from Phil Mickelson’s US Amateur win in 1990 to the 1993 U.S. Senior Open Victory of Jack Nicklaus and more,” said Jason Deegan in a recent article for the Golf Channel. We are proud to have helped create this exhibit that helps to deliver the sense of tradition and history at Cherry Hills.

Jason Deegan of the Golf Channel recently took a walk through of a new museum exhibit at Cherry Hills Country Club and declared that “…(no other course) gave me the sense of history and tradition like Cherry Hills.” When designing the exhibit, Condit and Cherry Hills wanted to match the architectural style while remaining consistent with its legendary history. We, and the Golf Channel apparently, believe that was accomplished. Dr. Lew Blakely, a USGA rules official, who has literally seen hundreds of Clubs and numerous historical exhibits around the world said “…the displays have the qualities of a first rate museum while retaining the attention of both the causal observer and someone more academically inclined.” Cherry Hills hosted the 2012 US Amateur and will be hosting the 2014 BMW Championship.

How to Actually Get Americans Online

This morning, my letter to the editor to The New York Times was published. With the word restrictions, I didn’t have an opportunity to show some of the ways that Ms. Crawford’s opinion piece missed the mark, so I thought I’d write this blog post.

In her opinion on how to get broadband access to more Americans, Ms. Crawford ignores the reality in the United States and how we compare with the world.

The U.S. promotes competition and innovation.

  • That’s proven by the fact that 98 percent of Americans have access to 3G wireless service today, and more than 90 percent have access to 4G wireless service. These are advanced technologies deployed by competing companies.
  • With five percent of the world’s wireless subscribers and population, wireless providers in the U.S. serve almost half of the world’s LTE subscribers.
  • Bank of America Merrill Lynch recently pointed out the U.S. is responsible for 25 percent of the world’s wireless capital investment.
  • That’s just the wireless service providers’ capital investment. It doesn’t count spending by companies that employ more than 519,000 people in wireless application-related jobs here in the U.S. It doesn’t include the spending by the many software, firmware and hardware companies that help make up the wireless ecosystem in the U.S., including the global manufacturers who have located their R&D facilities in Texas, California and other states.

The fact is that we have relied upon competition to drive innovation, choice, and growth here in the U.S. since the birth of the wireless industry. As a result, we've been a global leader without a centralized, government-driven and government-funded industrial policy.

Rather than creating a host of new government-funded Internet service providers, innovation and growth would be better served by allocating more spectrum to commercial wireless service.

Numerous engineers and experts, along with the FCC and policymakers, have read the independent reports that show consumer demand will outpace the wireless networks’ capacity soon. Carriers are using all of the tools and “tricks” available to keep up, but more spectrum is needed to meet demand. Fiber is one form of Internet access, but spectrum-based networks are another.

What should be dear to her heart is that more spectrum also means a significant economic boost. By bringing 500 MHz of spectrum to market (as the FCC’s National Broadband Plan advocated), the U.S. will see an increase of: $166 billion in GDP; at least 350,000 new jobs; $23.4 billion in government revenues; and $13.1 billion in wireless applications and content sales.

Surely these are figures that anyone, including Ms. Crawford, could support.

The Bottom Line: Trade Show Marketing Accessories

Just as the right necklace makes the dress or the right tie makes the suit, successful trade show marketing demands proper accessories. Literature racks, portable trade show counters, trade show tables, banner stands and banner stand lights are a few of the trade show marketing accessories that perform like magnets, drawing customers to your booth(s). Custom table throws should be included in this group of accessories as they’re colorful, can skillfully project your message and, in a pinch, can professionally cover up a multitude of mishaps, ie., a dinged up table or stack some boxes under it, cover it with your custom table throw and forget about it!

Making a visual statement in the market place is critical to every trade show exhibitor’s bottom line. A booth that doesn’t attract the customer’s attention is usually inhabited by a lone exhibitor holding an empty order pad. Banner stands, banner stand lights, portable trade show counters, literature racks and custom table covers indicate to customers that an exhibitor has put thought into professionally promoting his wares and is credible. The new customer is often drawn into a trade show booth out of curiosity but it’s the accessories/visual that initially got his/her attention. There’s no other item in a trade show budget that promotes a bigger return than trade show marketing accessories.

Turnover a New Leaf-Reduce Attrition & Improve Agent Engagement,

The call center agent’s job isn’t easy. Most of the day is spent interacting with customers and keeping them satisfied. When time permits agents may be asked to complete training and coaching activities that enable them to do their job well.

Finding the time to train, coach and even communicate with agents remains a challenge for many centers.  As transaction types become more complex, the agent learning curve has become even steeper. Many agents become frustrated with the endless grind, lack of variety and end up walking out the door not long after they get their first few paychecks. Every time an agent leaves, it is expensive for your company.

Industry-wide, agent attrition is hovering around 30%. Not only is this expensive in terms of hard costs like recruiting, hiring, new hire training and productivity losses, there are even more critical hidden opportunity costs such as customer churn that many organizations don’t track because they are harder to quantify. The truth is that when agents don’t have the training and coaching they need, their performance suffers. And poor performing agents are less satisfied with their jobs and ultimately more likely to leave your company.
Similarly, when customers have a poor call center experience, they are also more likely to leave your company. When poor performing agents leave, they are replaced by new agents who are unprepared. This leads to more poor performance, thus repeating the cycle and increasing the risk to customer loyalty.

In a new Knowlagent white paper, Turnover a New Leaf-Reduce Attrition & Improve Agent Engagement, discusses how you can  reduce attrition in your call center.

Missing my chance to meet Captain America

I am addicted to trade shows and when I can’t get to a certain show I will look online for news and information about trade shows not taking place in Las Vegas

The one show that has eluded me year after year is Comic Con — the annual convention of popular arts with special guests, themes and anniversaries, and programming. It is the ultimate gathering of science fiction characters, comic book heroes and the celebrities who portray them in films.

Most of the characters are the attendees who travel to the San Diego Convention Center to participate in the convention. The press enjoys covering this event because there is never a shortage of costume-clad sci-fi fans. This year the show is going ape with the release of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” on Aug. 5.

More than 125,000 fans have descended upon the Convention Center this week, dressing up like their heroes, which this year will include vampires, werewolves, zombie-killers and demon-hunters featured in recent and forthcoming comic books, TV shows, movies and video games.

Hugh Jackman was photographed at Comic Con passing out movie poster to hundreds of fans. Most fans know him as Wolverine of X-Men films of he has been promoting “Real Steel” his latest action film about boxing robots.

According to press releases, Jackman is Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring.

This film will most likely appeal to males. From the trailers it looks like the Rock ’Em Sock ’E Robots of my youth have taken over the silver screen.

I wouldn’t mind donning my Star Trek uniform and spend a day walking among Captain America, the Hulk or Spiderman.

Las Vegas does host the Star Trek Convention but it is not the same since Star Trek: The Experience shut down at the Hilton.

Las Vegas meanwhile has a beauty show in Cosmoprof North America, a show shoe from WSA and the ASD merchandise show taking place this month.

I may not get to rub elbows with Captain America but next month I will get chance to listen to President Bill Clinton who is the keynote speaker for the Summer 2011 Las Vegas Market at the World Market Center on Aug. 1.

Live long and prosper.

Ramsay Steak Opens Friday, May 11

LAS VEGAS (April 20, 2012) – Internationally-renowned Chef Gordon Ramsay announced that Gordon Ramsay Steak, his first restaurant in Las Vegas, will open Friday, May 11 at Paris Las Vegas.  Gordon Ramsay Steak will offer guests a fresh, high-energy modern steakhouse environment that playfully transports guests from Paris to London.

“The space is bold and innovative, and we've put together a strong team who together created a contemporary and fresh menu,” says Chef Ramsay. “I can't wait to open and start welcoming guests to my very first Vegas-based restaurant.”

David Hoenemeyer, president of Paris Las Vegas, looks forward to welcoming Gordon Ramsay to the resort: “I am incredibly pleased with the restaurant that Gordon Ramsay and his team have created at Gordon Ramsay Steak.  The space is one-of-a-kind in its design and energy; my mouth waters simply reading the menu.”

On the evening of May 11, Ramsay will participate in Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit’s Grand Tasting where Gordon Ramsay Steak will serve small bites to thousands of guests from its newly fabricated booth, stylistically representative of the restaurant.  Attendees of the event will be treated to a selection of some of Ramsay’s traditional favorites such as the roasted beef Wellington served with potato puree and butter-glazed root vegetables, pan-seared Haddock with Irish potato broth and sticky toffee pudding.  This will be Chef Ramsay’s first year participating in the culinary event at Caesars Palace Garden of the Gods pool oasis.

Gordon Ramsay Steak’s menu, carried out by new Executive Chef Kevin Hee, who has trained under the Gordon Ramsay Group, will showcase Ramsay’s interpretation of traditional American steakhouse dishes with a hint of modern flair intertwined with many contemporary classics.  The menu will change seasonally drawing on the best product available at the time giving visitors new tastes upon every return.  Diners can choose from starters either “From Sea” or “From Land” with dishes like butter-poached Maine lobster, fried oysters and smoked beef tartare with Guinness-infused mustard seeds.  Main courses offer a wide selection of grilled items such as a large range of Wagyu beef, various cuts of dry-aged steaks, veal, Kurobuta double pork chop and an assortment of seafood choices.

A Preference For Portable Trade Show Displays

Time and money are the most important virtues which any organization would love to preserve so as to be prepared for bad economic times. The preference for portable trade show displays during these trying times is obvious, not only do you save time and money with the use of portable booths but you also have additional savings on dryage and labor costs.

Portable trade show booths have two unique features. Firstly they setup and dismantle easily, saving you valuable time on the show floor. Secondly most portable displays are built to be lightweight and can be compacted for shipping purposes. In return saving you money on shipping and dryage costs. In addition most shows will allow you set your portable exhibit yourself as long as it completed within the first half hour.

It is always a better choice to start on a cheaper note if you are new to trade show business and this is when portable trade show booths prove to be most helpful. One famous type of portable trade show booth are pop up displays which take up less space and do a fine job of promoting your products and or services.

Justice finally served

I am addicted to tradeshows but I always keep my eye on the news and when the news hits the fan it is hard to concentrate on other things in life.

News of the death of Osama bin Laden was a huge victory for the United States and should change the course of war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

it is a mess over there and I am glad to be an American living in Las Vegas.

Yet, it is hard to hear of news from this past weekend and not think back to that awful morning in New York. I was working for a tradeshow publication here in Las Vegas. I was still new to the industry and trying to get my head around pop-up modules and double-deck booths.

The events that transpired that early Tuesday morning will always be fresh in my memory. Everyone remembers where he or she was when the World Trade Center towers came crashing down.

Now everyone will remember where they were when they heard the news about the Navy Seals who stormed a compound in Abbottabad and killed the most hated man in America.

It was justice served.

Perhaps this is not the place to discuss the events that took place in another American city or in a small town in a country I will never visit, but it goes to show the reach that one man had and the effect his decision had on a city this evil man probably never visited.

When the planes hit the Towers in New York all planes were grounded and McCarran Airport and the Las Vegas Convention Center were placed on high alert.

Tradeshows, conventions and tourism came to a halt that day and Las Vegas’ economy was crippled.

Comdex was expected to give its usual boost to the Las Vegas economy but after the attacks there was talk of canceling Comdex all together.

Comdex was expected to draw upwards of 200,00 attendees to its November Show. Comdex picked up some attendees in the days leading up to the show but final numbers came in at 110,000 attendees. The tech boom head reached its peak and in June 2004, Comdex cancelled the 2004 exhibition in Las Vegas.

According to news accounts, McCarran was averaging more than 3 million passengers a month until the number dropped to 2.1 million in September 2001 and remained below 3 million until March 2002.

Gaming revenue for Clark County fell from $650 million in August 2001 to $595 million in September and stayed below year-ago levels until February 2002.Hotels were discounting rates like car dealers to maintain occupancy levels, which had fallen from 90 percent to about 70 percent.

One evil man can be blamed for the dismal economic figures for that year. Now he is gone and while New York continues to rebuild at Ground Zero, Las Vegas continues to rebuild its tradeshow and tourism economy.

It is hard to believe that one man could create such world-wide terror but now that he is gone, it is my hope that we can work to solve other issues that directly effect us as Americans living in Las Vegas or anytown, U.S.A.

As a I watch President Barack Obama lay a wreath at Ground Zero I look ahead with hope for a peaceful future and a prosperous trade show business. I do know there is much more work to do and peace will not come easy but catching Osama is something President Obama can mark off his bucket list.

See you on the floor!
